Carb, Fat and Calorie Information Helps Guests Make Healthy Choices

Orlando, Fla. (July 11, 2005) — For health conscious Canadians who look for ways to watch what they eat when dining out, Red Lobster will introduce its popular “LightHouse Menu” on Tuesday, July 12 for the first time in 31 restaurant locations around Canada.

The LightHouse Menu is designed to provide guests with nutritional information for over 30 of the company’s most popular menu items, including an appetizer, numerous entrees, side dishes, dipping sauces and beverages, by listing the calorie, carbohydrate and fat contents for each.

“Canadians want healthier food, but they also want it to taste great.  Our LightHouse Menu gives them what they’re looking for,” said Kim Lopdrup, president of Red Lobster.  “Seafood is naturally low in carbs, fat and calories.”

Dishes on the LightHouse Menu include new entrée-Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail Dinner (228 cal, 2 carbs, 4g fat), new entrée-Grilled Shrimp (142 cal, 0 carbs, 3g fat), Snow Crab Legs (262 cal, 0 carbs, 5g fat), Rock Lobster Tail (139 cal, 0 carbs, 1g fat), North Pacific King Crab Legs (327 cal, 0 carbs, 6g fat), LobsterChops™ (136 cal, 2 carbs, 2g fat), Roasted Tilapia in a Bag (592 cal, 34 carbs, 16g fat) and Live Maritime Lobster 1¼ lbs. (145 cal, 2 carbs, 1g fat).  Additionally, guests can enjoy a selection of grilled or broiled fresh fish (Salmon, Tilapia, Pacific Snapper and Rainbow Trout).

The menu also includes nutritional information for side dishes, such as Seasoned Fresh Broccoli (56 cal, 10 carbs, 0g fat) and Baked Potato with Pico de Gallo topping (208 cal, 45 carbs, 1g fat).

Nutritionists are advising consumers to eat more fish and seafood because it is rich in many essential nutrients and can contribute to a healthy diet.  Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating, which is produced by the Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion, recommends that people choose low fat foods more often, such as fish.
