Orlando, Fla. (June 9, 2005) The world’s largest casual dining restaurant company announced last week that Brunswick, Ga.-based King & Prince Seafood Corporation won Darden Restaurants’ top supplier honor: The William B. Darden Distinguished Supplier Award.
Darden Restaurants, Inc., which owns and operates more than 1,370 Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Smokey Bones Barbeque & Grill and Seasons 52 restaurants, recognized the seafood producer for developing some of the most popular dishes on Darden’s menus – such as Red Lobster’s Coconut Shrimp Bites and Calamari, Olive Garden’s Spinach & Artichoke Dip, and Smokey Bones’ Shrimp Skillet Scampi.
Darden’s Distinguished Supplier Awards, now in its ninth year, are presented annually to Darden suppliers whose innovative solutions significantly contributed to the company’s growth during the past year, while also providing its guests with outstanding dining experiences. The award is announced at the National Restaurant Association Restaurant & Hotel-Motel Show in Chicago and named for Darden’s late founder and restaurant industry icon, William B. Darden.
“We are honored to receive this award,” said King & Prince President and CEO Russ Mentzer. “It’s a tribute to the dedication and commitment of all King & Prince employees that we have been recognized as a contributing partner to an organization whose quality standards have for years set the tone for the entire industry.”
King & Prince Seafood Corporation was one of just nine Darden suppliers out of 2,000 to win the award.
“Bill Darden helped establish the casual dining industry more than 65 years ago,” said Clarence Otis, Darden Restaurants’ chief executive officer. “Innovative suppliers such as King & Prince Seafood will help us pioneer casual dining’s next frontier.”
For more than 50 years, King & Prince Seafood Corporation has been a producer of superior quality, value-added seafood for America’s finest restaurants and food retailers.
“King & Prince Seafood, like all of our Supplier Award winners, represent the best and brightest in the casual dining industry,” said Drew Madsen, Darden Restaurants’ president and chief operating officer. “These great companies help Darden Restaurants nourish and delight the five to seven million people who dine in our restaurants each week.”
