Red Lobster® and PepsiCo Foodservice Volunteer Teams Collect More Than 36 Pounds of Trash at Cocoa Beach During World Ocean Day Coastal Cleanup Event
Orlando, Fla. (June 13, 2022) – Volunteers from Red Lobster® and PepsiCo, Inc. (NASDAQ: PEP) teamed up to collect trash at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach in honor of World Ocean Day. The group of 50 volunteers from both companies, together with the support of Ocean Conservancy, a leading ocean conservation nonprofit, worked together to collect and log 36 pounds of trash in just a few hours. A majority of the trash collected consisted of the top ten items that Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) volunteers find around the world.
Approximately 11 million metric tons of plastic waste enters the ocean each year, impacting more than 1,000 species of wildlife. While Ocean Conservancy believes a suite of solutions are necessary to solve the ocean plastic crisis, cleanups are an important way of raising awareness of the issue while having an immediate impact on local waterways.
