How does my seafood order arrive fresh?
Your lobster is caught fresh, packed in an insulated container, and shipped overnight to your selected destination for preparation that day. That's why fresh seafood orders must be placed by 3 p.m. Eastern time for next day delivery. Delivery is only made Tuesday through Saturday.
Why is it important to prepare fresh, live lobster?
Lobsters and other crustaceans spoil rapidly when they die, which is why people schedule their order and receive them alive. Your live lobster may be lethargic after its journey, but it is healthy and ready for your preparation and enjoyment. When a healthy lobster is cooked, the tail will curl under the body. If the tail curls on the cooked lobster, the lobster is good to eat.
Can I schedule my delivery date?
Yes. Your online order form asks you to specify your delivery date.
How do I determine the shipping cost?
Your order is coming overnight from the East Coast by Federal Express. Based on the shipping destination information you provide in the order form, you will be able to view your shipping cost prior to completing the transaction.
What is my satisfaction guarantee?
We guarantee you will receive fresh live lobster and seafood. However, you are responsible for receiving your delivery and proper storage until you prepare it, which should be the same day and no later than 24 hours after delivery. We recommend you be at the delivery destination when your seafood arrives. If the shipping carton is damaged in a way that has caused the lobster to perish, save all material including the lobster and call the shipping agent. If your purchase does not meet your expectation, you should call (866) 242-5200.
Is my online order secure?
Yes. Your order is processed by a secure online Web server. You will note that the Web site address on the order page says "https" denoting a secure server. Also you will see a small picture of a padlock in the lower corner of your computer screen. With these safeguards in place, your transaction information is communicated privately over the Internet.
What do I do when my order arrives?
Immediately inspect your shipment but do not remove the lobsters. Then keep them cool and moist. You may add some wet newspaper or cloth to keep them moist, but do not immerse them in fresh water. Refrigerate the entire contents until time to prepare.
How do I prepare lobster?
Lobster must either be cooked live or killed immediately prior to cooking. They may be cleaned before or after cooking, depending on the cooking method and the way in which they are to be used. Though whole lobsters are best simply boiled or broiled, lobster meat may be prepared in a variety of ways. Consult a general cookbook for cleaning and cooking instructions or use Red Lobster's Recipes for cooking lobster.
Is there a best season for ordering live lobster?
Fresh lobsters are available and can be enjoyed year-round.
Does my lobster order deplete a natural resource?
In the Northeast, the lobster fishery resource is considered to be healthy. Fishermen and scientists continue to work together to develop management measures, which will help ensure adequate sustainable egg production. Conservation is currently practiced through the safeguarding of trapping very young lobsters. Egg-bearing females are also protected and if caught, must be placed back in the sea. Lobster traps must have escape vents to allow sub-legal size lobsters to exit the trap while it is still on the bottom (they can come in, eat and leave). Lobster traps must also have biodegradable escape panels, which will create a large opening and neutralize the fishing potential of a lost trap. With the escape panel open, a lost "trap" or "pot" actually becomes a habitat providing shelter without entrapment.
